Student cooking competition returns
This year's annual Kids in the Kitchen/Junior Chef Competition event will be held Friday, May 19! District 4th - 6th grade students are invited to submit recipes for their favorite after-school snacks. The recipes, which must be submitted by Friday, March 17, do not have to be original. Student finalists will be selected from the submitted recipes and will be invited to prepare their culinary masterpieces at a Friday, May 19, event. A panel of judges will select the grand prize winners. Past award categories have included health-conscious foods; simple, kid-friendly preparation; fun food; and judge’s choice. Cougar Spirit Day
Every Thursday is School Spirit Day at Cathcart! While hard to define, school spirit involves a strong emotional connection with school. School spirit can improve a student’s commitment to education and creates a positive learning environment for both students and teachers. School spirit develops and fosters relationships among people. School spirit unifies the student body and makes fun memories for students, teachers, and families. Students, staff members and parents are encouraged to wear our school colors – green and white – to school every Thursday.
APEX Fun Run
The APEX program helps schools raise funds while promoting fitness and teaching students fun and engaging lessons about leadership. Lessons stress character traits such as integrity, honesty and being uplifting. Watch for more information about how you and your child can be involved in February.
Cathcart Spelling Bee 2017
The Cathcart Parent Organization, CPO, is sponsoring this year’s Spelling Bee. Classroom Bees for grades 1 – 6 will be held during the week of January 23. Flyers with more information, along with word lists, were sent home with students before Winter Break.
All participating students will receive a certificate. Classroom winners will participate in a school Spelling Bee on February 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the school gym and the final winner from Cathcart will be invited to participate in the Regional Spelling Bee in Seattle on March 19.
Winter, and the inclement weather that often accompanies it, will be here before you know it.
Important Morning Reminder
Cathcart School Hours
For your students’ safety, please do not drop off your student before 8:20 a.m. There is no student supervision on the Cathcart campus before 8:20 a.m.
After School Arrangements
Please be sure to contact the school office as early in the day as possible when there is a change in your child’s after school transportation arrangements. You may send in a signed note or call the office in the morning to change arrangements. We ask for your help in this matter in order to get all of our kids safely home each day.
After School Student Pick Up
Parents, we ask that you pick your students up at the kindergarten playground on the east side of campus after school. This assures that all of our students have a common location where they can be safely picked up and supervised when walking across the busy street or through the parking lot. A teacher is in the area to assure that this is a safe area. Please do not ask your student to meet you somewhere else on campus because we cannot provide supervision in other areas. All of our teachers and the principal are supervising students at the buses after school. Thank you.
Application packets for the 4/5/6 highly capable and middle school honors programs are available by clicking here, at all Snohomish elementary schools and the district's Resource and Service Center (1601 Avenue D in Snohomish). Completed application packets are due Wednesday, February 1, 2017, and can be turned in at your local school or the Resource and Service Center (1601 Avenue D in Snohomish).
